Now that that iPhone 4S is out there, the biggest question seems to be: which carrier to go with in the U.S.? (…) I think having the iPhone on three carriers in the U.S. is ultimately going to be a very good thing for consumers. Instead of taking features away and raising prices as AT&T and Verizon have been doing for years, they may be forced to actually compete with incentives for users.
That’s not what happened in the Netherlands…
Android als iPad-concurrent lijkt ver weg

I feel like I’m banging my head against a wall when working with Honeycomb tablets. Google released an OS that never felt completely finished, and it still lacks much in ease of use and cohesion. Little details like sometimes not being able to properly select text or the scattered layout of navigational items make it a generally more harrowing experience next to the iPad 2 or even the TouchPad. In Sony’s attempt to alter (or improve?) the experience of the OS, the company has simply made it more messy. I didn’t feel like I wanted to pick the device up and work with it — I felt like I wanted to avoid it.
This is genuinely Microsoft’s idea of a “streamlined”, “optimized” UI for Windows Explorer. They were so proud of it they wrote a blog post about it.

Op de site in de link staat een filmpje waarin ze het laten zien. Het ziet er behoorlijk speelbaar uit met bijvoorbeeld Real Racing 2 HD (een van mijn favorieten). Heel benieuwd hoe dit uiteindelijk zal werken!

Android stapt een Windows-valkuil in

Bij het eerste opstarten of na een reset staan er al met al maar liefst 53 applicaties in het hoofdmenu, waarvan er meer dan twintig domweg crapware zijn. Ze nemen kostbare ruimte in, zijn niet zomaar verwijderbaar en voegen in veel gevallen niets toe.
Daar kun je natuurlijk op wachten bij een race om de laagste prijs op het het Android platform. Wat dat betreft heeft Microsoft meer geleerd van Windows met Windows Phone 7 waar dit soort dingen dus niet toegestaan zijn.

HP “Ouchpad”
According to one source who’s seen internal HP reports, Best Buy has taken delivery of 270,000 TouchPads and has so far managed to sell only 25,000, or less than 10 percent of the units in its inventory.
Dat is niet veel, in een maand tijd. Apple verkocht 300.000 iPads in één dag, toen er nog helemaal “geen markt voor was”.
A second person who has seen Best Buy’s TouchPad sales figures confirmed the results as “consistent with what I’ve seen,” and went so far as to say that 25,000 sold might be “charitable.” This source suggested that the 25,000-unit sales number may not account for units that consumers return to stores for a refund.

Best Buy, sources tell us, is so unhappy that it has told HP it’s unwilling to pay for all the TouchPads it has taking up expensive space in its stores and warehouses and wants HP to take them back. HP, for its part, is pleading with Best Buy to be patient.

Michael Dell liet weten dat zijn bedrijf vertrouwen blijft houden in Android-tablets en Googles mobiele OS, maar het vroege werk van Dell met Windows 8 verloopt ‘bemoedigend’. De Dell-topman verwacht dat het OS zal uitgroeien tot een solide concurrent voor Android.
Concurrent voor Android, niet voor iOS.
